Macy’s Union Square
Project Overview: Macy’s Union Square
- Location: 352 Geary Blvd.
- Type: Renovation
- Description:
Large expansion of long-time Union Square tenant incorporating two existing buildings and a new horizontal and vertical extension of approximately 900,000 square feet of space into a retail store.
- Client: Federated Stores
- Cost: $230 mil
- ARS Role:
This project involved 8 different property lines and multiple owners. ARS’ ability to bring the parties together and facilitate discussions and agreement throughout the process was critical to the success of the project. This example shows just how important it can be to have a consultant with outstanding communication skills and the finesse to handle delicate negotiations. Structurally, the connections between the buildings are virtually seamless, with no narrowing or physical barriers. Fire suppression, emergency generator, and historic building tie together without any outward appearance changes. The building is now handicap accessible to current code. And amazingly, all this was achieved without one day of disruption to business at the store!
