ARS Role:

ARS has provided in-depth assistance with all phases of this project including initial permitting, code compliance, and facilitation of inspections. This project was the first biotech building that came under the jurisdiction of the S.F. Building Department. ARS arranged meetings between parties to facilitate discussion and promote open working relations and was designated the single coordinator for all the designers to the City departments and arranged multiple meetings between owners, designers and staff from the State and San Francisco Building, Fire, Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical and Health departments. When safety concerns due to chemicals involved in biotechnology arose, ARS was able to address the issues and coordinated with the design team chemist to provide a comprehensive report outlining the properties of compounds to be used at the facility. This provided benefits to everyone as it allowed the professional designers to educate the departments on how to make drawings understandable for this type of building. It also insured that the developers design needs would be approved in an efficient manner. The reports and opportunity to ask questions helped assuage fears, and the project proceeded with minimal problems and resulted in a quick, thorough permit approval process.
